Create Events

Create Events

To start creating your first event, click the Create Event button in the top right corner of the Rekwest app.

Below is a very brief overview of the event settings.

Event Settings

Name Your Event

Start by giving your event a name and optional description.

  • Event Name: This is visible to your guests. Example: “Wedding Alice & Bob”
  • Description (optional): Give some context about the event or music style.

Add a Cover Image

Make your event visually stand out:

  • Choose a GIF from Giphy
  • Upload a custom image

This image will appear on the guest-facing event page.

Set Date & Time

Define when the event starts and ends:

  • Start Time: The time your event begins.
  • End Time: When it ends.
  • Optionally, enable “Allow requests before start” to let guests submit song requests even before the event begins.
  • Optionally, enable “Repeat event” to have your event automatically repeat periodically. You can set a custom recurrence pattern (e.g., every Friday at 8 PM) that fits your needs.

Add a Physical Location (Optional)

If your event is at a physical location, enable this option:

  • Location Name: A friendly display name like “My Backyard”
  • Coordinates: Set using a map picker

Restrict Who Can Join

You’re in control of who can participate:

  • Only guests with link/QR code: Hides your event from public listings. Only those with the link or QR code can join.
  • Only guests with a Rekwest account: Require guests to create a Rekwest account to participate (usually not recommended).
    • Manually approve guests: Review and approve/decline each guest before they can request songs.
  • Only physically present guests (if physical location is enabled): Limit access by proximity. This requires guests to be within a certain distance of the event location.
    • Set a maximum distance (e.g., 100 meters)

Enable Donations (Optional)

Let guests attach a donation when requesting songs. Please check out the Receive Donations guide for more details.

Choose Music Source

Select your preferred platform to power song requests. When requesting a song, we use the entire song database from either Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Music, or TIDAL to populate search results when searching for a track. This selector gives you the option to choose where the search results come from when someone requests a song. If you enable the Repertoire Limit feature, only songs available in your own repertoire will be shown instead.

Platforms available:

  • Spotify
  • SoundCloud
  • Apple Music
  • TIDAL

Depending on the source, additional options may appear:

Export to Playlist or Queue (Optional)

Automatically add the song requests that you accept to your playlist, dj software, or playback queue. Please check out the Connect Your Playlist guide for more details.

Advanced Features

Click “Advanced Features” to unlock some more features:

  • Messages on song requests: Allow guests to add a personal message when requesting a song. You can specify whether messages are only shown to you (the host) or visible to all attendees.
  • Custom nicknames for anonymous users: Require guests to enter a nickname before requesting songs so you can identify them.
  • Request interval limits: Prevent spam by setting minimum time between requests
  • Voting on non-pending requests: Normally attendees can only vote on pending requests. Enable this option to allow voting on declined, accepted, and played requests as well.
  • Re-request options: By default, a song can only be requested once per event. You can change this to:
    • Allow re-requesting previously accepted songs
    • Allow re-requesting previously played songs
    • Allow re-requesting previously declined songs

That’s the basics covered!

Once your event is configured:

  1. Hit Save
  2. Invite Your Guests
  3. Take and manage requests in real-time!
